  • Check it out, y’all! We’ve partnered up with Women.Design.Build to create our first-ever workshop for women only. Over two weekends in October, we will explore design principles, construction methods, welding techniques and much more as participants design and construct a “micro chapel” and reflection area at the Mobile Loaves and Fishes’ Community First! Village. This master-planned community in East Austin, when completed, will provide affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. In the name of building community, our workshop participants will … Keep Reading→

  • Yoga and Welding Roundup

  • Earlier in March, we hosted our first-ever (and sold-out!) “Camp Design Build Adventure Presents Yoga and Welding.” This one-day workshop took place on a Saturday and embraced the theme of “Practicing your practice.”

Our adventure began with Kate Campbell leading a relaxing meditation on the front porch. She then took the participants through a hearty session of Vinyasa Flow, where the participants learned to test the boundaries of their comfort zones and focus their minds on the present moment.

After yoga, we all gathered on the back porch for a … Keep Reading→

  • A Look Back: Adventure in Heavy Metal

  • This fall, we hosted our second-ever Design Build Adventure in Heavy Metal, benefitting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). It promised tons of adventure from the moment it began. The 2.5-day workshop kicked off in the midst of a severe thunderstorm that caused flash flooding all over greater Austin.

But the downpour wasn’t enough to stop our 11 adventurers from showing up to embark on a weekend of collaboration, creative thinking, and plenty of music, food and fun.

After receiving sketchbooks, safety glasses, earplugs and bandanas, the adventurers gathered … Keep Reading→
