April 21, 2013: Day 3 — the final day — of the Design Build Adventure in Heavy Metal, benefitting HAAM, began nice and easy with stretching on the back porch, breakfast tacos and coffee. Adventurers then quickly got to work, putting the finishing touches on their heavy metal masterpieces. As the sun got low on the horizon, everyone gathered for a celebratory dinner, prepared specially by Austin executive chef Rene Ortiz. Afterwards, friends of Design Build Adventure and the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) gathered for an evening of live music under the stars and a silent auction, which featured the metalworks of the adventurers, a grill custom-designed by Rene Ortiz, and donated items from Farmhouse Delivery, Billy Reid, Folk Fibers and Jack Sanders. We raised $2,773 and every dollar went to HAAM.

The musical lineup included Sarah and Andy Sharp, Michael Fracasso, Dana Wheeler and David Pulkingham, and Jon Dee Graham and William Harries Graham. All the musicians who participated in the design build adventure weekend graciously donated their time. We’d also like to thank Real Ale Brewing Co., Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Progress Coffee and Farmhouse Delivery for their support.

We are very proud of our adventurers, all of whom accepted the challenge, learned something new, and applied themselves 110 percent in helping us raise money and awareness for HAAM.
