Yoga and Welding Roundup

Earlier in March, we hosted our first-ever (and sold-out!) “Camp Design Build Adventure Presents Yoga and Welding.” This one-day workshop took place on a Saturday and embraced the theme of “Practicing your practice.”

Our adventure began with Kate Campbell leading a relaxing meditation on the front porch. She then took the participants through a hearty session of Vinyasa Flow, where the participants learned to test the boundaries of their comfort zones and focus their minds on the present moment.

After yoga, we all gathered on the back porch for a brown-bag “lunch ‘n’ learn.” Building upon the themes of breaking outside your comfort zone and focusing your mind, Jack explained how these principles apply to welding and the design-build process.

Working with pipe cleaners, construction paper and pencils, the adventurers were asked to replicate the shapes of their favorite yoga poses. They then had the opportunity to go into the shop with the DBA crew and fabricate their designs in metal.

The day culminated with a “show ‘n’ tell” session, in which the participants shared their metalwork creations with the group. Austin singer-songwriter and Design Build Adventure crew member Dan Dyer got out his guitar and kicked off our campfire happy hour, which featured cold beer and street tacos until the sun went down.

Thank you mucho, Stevan Alcala, for documenting the beautiful day!
