  • PORTLAND DESIGN BUILD

  •

Jack Sanders and Butch Anthony were in Portland again this August, as “Visiting Artists” at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art and Craft joint program –  MFA in Applied Craft.  Program Director JP Reuer and 17 extremely talented artists worked directly with Butch and Jack, and several local non-profits to design and build a “community bicycle hub” in just 15 days.  The “hub” will be a place for volunteers to teach people basic bicycle repair and other bicycle related programming.   The design and … Keep Reading→

The MFA students, neighborhood residents, with Jack and Butch Anthony will build a small bike repair shop / community hub in a bike skills park in N. Portland.

The rest of the Design Build Adventure team will remain under the blue tarp at the studio cranking out steel and wood furniture for Austin’s new Studio A, and some handsome hanging … Keep Reading→

  • GARDEN SHED OF DELIGHT AND PRODUCTIVITY

  • What a pleasure to design and build something that was (before design and construction) named the ‘garden shed of delight and productivity’.  For friends who have already proven up to the challenge of producing and delighting (via BBQs, an amazing garden, the restored native prairie area, cedar boardwalk, and even their couch) so much in their beautiful East Austin home (all on less than an acre).  The 100 degree heat nor the 45 degree incline would not keep us from finishing this project.  The shed is constructed of recycled oil … Keep Reading→

  • Camp Design Build Adventure Summer 2012

  • A few weeks ago – we held the 2nd Summer Camp Design Build Adventure in Marfa.  We continued our collaboration with the Dersu Collective and made improvements to the East Side Play!  12 great “campers” , and interdisciplinary All-Star team of talent and enthusiasm – we wandered, gathered, ‘stretched with Jack’, ate (#farmhousedelivery thank you), drank (#dosequis thank you ), designed, presented, laughed, Venus-gazed, dug holes, poured concrete, drilled, and welded.   We did maintenance to the last year’s shade structure by sewing up tears in the alumi-net, adding some more … Keep Reading→

  • CASTROP FENCE & GARDEN STREET SANDLOT BED

  • Phase 2 of Castrop Fence is underway – and we are about to get back out there today. We intend to secure the cattle panel
today so the ‘gabion basket’ design will be filled to the 3 foot mark. Then gate and custom mailboxes, and more!

Also, we did some more work at the Garden Street House with the “Sandlot Bed”. All photos by Adolfo Moreno. … Keep Reading→

  • GARDEN SHED OF DELIGHT AND PRODUCTIVITY

  • Before these East Austin friends start work on their THOUGHTBARN designed home, they commissioned the Design Build Adventure team to come and hang a garden shed off the hill at the back of their property. Next to the chicken coop, bountiful garden, and even the prairie land restoration project, we had plenty of inspiration to start the project (and creative freedom). “Do your thing” was essentially the charge, as long as the finished shed could perform it’s functional responsibilities.

DBA designer Adrian Larriva developed the basic design, and took the … Keep Reading→

  • ADVENTURE MAILBOX

  • Design Build Adventure Mailbox in Austin, Texas. New Mailbox needed to tie in visually with the existing landscape steel and at the same time provide ample room for the delivery of client’s coveted magazines. The mailbox also drew some inspiration from the Flatiron Building in NYC. Project Manager was Philip Burkhardt with Greg Tenenbown, Adrian Larriva, and Adolfo Moreno. Digitally – Cut Steel was provided by BBIITT.… Keep Reading→

  • DOONANNY BUILD ADVENTURE

  • My annual pilgrimage to the Butch Anthony’s Doonanny in Seale, Alabama is one of the most important events of my “art year”.  For the ninth years running, I have gathered with a group of people in the woods of wonder to help grow this beautiful little micro-festival.  This year I was able to call on some Camp Design Build Adventure alumnus, Dan Dyer and Liz Gutierrez (and her partner David) to continue the development of the TEXAS CAMP at the Doonanny.   I packed some basic plumbing supplies, my two top … Keep Reading→
