Sunday, I was lucky to be at the “first ‘throw” at the new East Side Play.
East Side Play is the first effort by Marfa’s Dersu Collective
to use proceeds from their group art shows to develop and
fund small community projects . And in the last two weeks, they used
some of their proceeds to clear, mow, fence the new sandlot Coliseum .
And Sunday, Soccer Balls and Footballs were flying,
This summer – at the first ever CAMP DESIGN BUILD ADVENTURE,
workshop participants will design and build an exciting shade structure
as well as some benches, and whatever other great ideas turn up –
entirely from donated and salvaged materials in Marfa, TX
The kids of East Side Play will participate in the design,
already contributing ideas, such as “building a dome over the
entire playing field” …
There are only a few spots left in first ever, Camp Design Build Adventure –
No Experience Necessary,
Must enjoy designing with crayolas, and pencils on cardboard and scrap wood,
and building with materials that we will salvage and carry to site by hand,
Must be comfortable with slow IPhones , and Siestas
Must also enjoy talking about designing and building in the evening
around the grill, under the big Marfa sky
