06/11/10….photo by Larry Kolvoord/AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN…Artist Robert Gay makes pictures of one of the art installations along the Lance Armstrong Bikeway that was a collaboration between he and artists Leah Davis and Jack Sanders. This installation is one of several “tunnels” along the bikeway. There are 27 different installations that include signage, benches and tunnels. The color scheme reflects the yellow band iconography of Lance Armstrongs Livestrong organization. The public art was commissioned by the Austin Art in Public Places Program for the bikeway and was formally dedicated at a ceremony held at the pedestrian bridge under MoPac. Prior to the dedication, the artists and interested cyclists went on an early-bird art ride that began at Mellow Johnny’s bike shop and included stops at various art installations along the route with commentary and insights from the team of artists.
