  • WOMEN.DESIGN.BUILD.ADVENTURE.

  • Check it out, y’all! We’ve partnered up with Women.Design.Build to create our first-ever workshop for women only. Over two weekends in October, we will explore design principles, construction methods, welding techniques and much more as participants design and construct a “micro chapel” and reflection area at the Mobile Loaves and Fishes’ Community First! Village. This master-planned community in East Austin, when completed, will provide affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. In the name of building community, our workshop participants will … Keep Reading→

    Albany Ranch
Thanks in part to a collaboration with David Bowers at Studio A, we’re making progress on designs for a bunkhouse renovation and two new structures on this family ranch. The proposed design is staying true to the original aesthetic and includes some “structural gymnastics” to show off the oil-pipe truss beams designed by the family patriarch, Bob Green. In addition to DBA’s favorite material — OIL PIPE! — other materials include aerated concrete blocks, structurally insulated panels (SIPs) and Kalwall, a translucent wall panel.

  • VOODOO MUSIC + ART EXPERIENCE 2013

  • Eleven members of the Design Build Adventure crew headed east to the Big Easy this past November for the Voodoo Music & Art Experience, a three-day festival that, over the years, has drawn more than 450 bands and 1 million music fans to New Orleans city park.

This year, as Voodoo celebrated its 15th birthday, Design Build Adventure was hired to create the site plan for and then manage the festival’s general admission and VIP camping areas. On the technical side, this entailed mapping out electrical and plumbing and … Keep Reading→

    Venable Center | Stephenville

Having received a green light on our design, construction is now under way at Venable Center. This project, located on Jane Hickie’s private ranch near Stephenville, involves transforming a 1901 schoolhouse and 1951 parish hall into a community gathering place for weddings, theatrical and musical performances, banquets and other special occasions. Hickie, who directed the Office of State-Federal Relations under the late Gov. Ann Richards, enlisted Design Build Adventure to restore the buildings to their former glory, while updating them with audio-visual support, … Keep Reading→

  • DOONANNY BUILD ADVENTURE

  • My annual pilgrimage to the Butch Anthony’s Doonanny in Seale, Alabama is one of the most important events of my “art year”.  For the ninth years running, I have gathered with a group of people in the woods of wonder to help grow this beautiful little micro-festival.  This year I was able to call on some Camp Design Build Adventure alumnus, Dan Dyer and Liz Gutierrez (and her partner David) to continue the development of the TEXAS CAMP at the Doonanny.   I packed some basic plumbing supplies, my two top … Keep Reading→
