CAMP HEAVY METAL // SEPT. 20-22

On Sept. 20-22, 2013, we’ll host a Design-Build Adventure in Heavy Metal at the Design Build Adventure studio in Hornsby Bend, just nine miles east of Austin on FM 969. Five acres of Central Texas prairieland — marked by sprawling pecan trees, a campfire pit, main house and tool shop — will serve as the setting for all activities.

This adventure promises to be a weekend of creative exploration and engaging conversation among people who enjoy learning, getting their hands dirty and just having a good time. Adventurers will start their days “Stretching with Jack” to get their creative juices flowing. In the evenings, we’ll gather around the campfire for happy hour and live music by Austin musicians, thanks to our collaborative partnership with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). All pieces created during this workshop will be donated for auction to benefit HAAM.

A $550 tuition includes:
• a design-build adventure starter kit
• 20 hours of design/build instruction and hands-on experience with tools and materials
• welcome happy hour on Friday
• breakfast, lunch and happy hour on Saturday and Sunday
• nightly campfire concerts by Austin musicians
• Sunday dinner prepared by James Beard-nominated chefs Rene Ortiz and Laura Sawicki of Austin.
